Indian paralympians outshined their olympics colleagues this year winning 29 medals, the largest medals haul by an indian contingent in either the olympics or the paralympics in history. Participating in 16 sports this year, the indian athletes managed to win a medal in 4 of the sports in paris.
Manu bhaker became the first indian athlete to win multiple medals in a single edition of the olympics as she bagged two bronze medals. It all began with norman pritchard’s dual silver at paris 1900, followed by kd jadhav’s wrestling bronze at helsinki 1952 as the first individual medal for independent india.
